Powerful third quarter propels Panthers to victory over West Point

Winning is contagious, and after a year without any, Charles City’s Panthers have found the combination to end up on the right side of the scoreboard. Factor in a raucous home crowd of more than 300 people and a district rival, the positive momentum continues to favor the Panthers. After a close first half, Charles City outscored the visiting West Point Pointers 29-6 in the third quarter to power them to a 77-52 Tidewater District victory. Turning the page into 2023 hasn’t been very kind to the New Kent Lady Trojans as they have dropped every contest. But a combination of preparation along with a ramped defense put that losing skid to an end. New Kent’s Lady Trojans jumped out on the visiting Bruton Lady Panthers en route to a 60-31 thrashing during the Jan. 11 Bay Rivers District matchup. New Kent focuses on defensive end, locks down Warhill in 74-38 victory

After the Goochland holiday tournament, New Kent Trojans Head Coach Garrett Ross challenged his team to be better on the defensive end. Challenge accepted. Behind an aggressive trapping defense and minimizing shot attempts, New Kent cruised to a 74-38 victory over the Warhill Lions in the Jan. 9 Monday night contest. New Kent jumped out to a 7-0 lead to kick off the game and never looked back. Contributing to the first quarter scoring barrage was Isaiah Carr, who drained three trifectas for the Trojans. New Kent High wrestler Jordon wins 145-pound division at Trojan Wars in Pennsylvania

New Kent High School’s wrestling placed eighth overall in the Trojan Wars at Chambersburg High School in Pennsylvania on Dec. 29-30. Patrick Jordon emerged as a champion in the event in the 145-pound division, winning his match by a 5-3 decision over Mike Pizzuto of South Carroll High School in Maryland, who was undefeated at the time. Trace Ragland finished as runner-up in the 133-pound division, falling to Skyline High School’s Phoenix Aylea via decision (10-4). Tucker Lady Tigers in the opening round of the Mechanicsville Mustang Holiday Tournament. New Kent tops Goochland in consolation game of holiday tournament

After a setback in the opening round of the Goochland Holiday Invitational, New Kent’s Trojans looked to come out of the tournament with at least one win. It did so against the hosting Goochland Bulldogs. New Kent coasted to a 92-67 victory over the hosts, splitting their tournament appearance during the Dec. 20 contest.
