The New Kent Trojans’ football team season has consisted of many highs and many lows. With an opportunity for postseason play available with a win over visiting Smithfield, the New Kent Trojans had to do their part not to squander the opportunity. And it was a crazy end to the first half that highlighted the wild season for New Kent. Tabb pulls upset over Lady Trojans in volleyball, ends New Kent’s season in regional semifinals

Sometimes the burden of high expectations can be the downfall for any sports team. And after defeating the Tabb Lady Tigers twice in the regular season, New Kent’s Lady Trojans knew defeating a team, let alone a Bay Rivers District foe, for a third time would be difficult. Despite climbing back from an 0-2 deficit to start the match, the top-seeded Lady Trojans fell 20-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 12-15 in the Group 3A Region A semifinals, bringing their season to an end. New Kent Lady Trojans edged out by Tabb for regional cross-country title; boys capture third place

New Kent’s girls’ cross-country team was edged out by one point, settling for the position as runners-up at the Group 3A Region A championships held on Nov. 3 at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake. The Lady Trojans scored 40 points at the meet, falling just short of the championship to Bay Rivers District foe Tabb, who finished with a total of 39 points. Lafayette earned the bronze with 64 points. The Lady Trojans got strong performances with five athletes finishing in the top 15. New Kent strolls by I.C. Norcom in regional quarterfinal contest

New Kent Lady Trojans’ volleyball team’s road to the state tournament began with a visit from the Lady Greyhounds of I.C. Norcom on Nov. 3. So far, the team’s road had no bumps in it. New Kent cruised 25-4, 25-0, 25-5 over the visitors from Portsmouth in the quarterfinals of the Group 3A Region A tournament. New Kent quickly overwhelmed the visitors in the opening set. New Kent girls, boys’ cross-country teams sweep Colonial Heights

New Kent’s boys and girls’ cross-country teams swept Colonial Heights in an Oct. 20 home dual meet. New Kent swept the first four spots on the boys’ side, leading to an accumulation of 16 points for the win. By comparison, Colonial Heights’ boys’ team finished with 43 points. On the girls’ side, the Lady Trojans claimed spots 2-4, as well as sixth and seven place to win their portion of the meet. New Kent scored a total of 22 points, outdistancing themselves from Colonial Heights who finished with 39 points.
