New Kent softball has no issues disposing Bruton’s Lady Panthers

When tight games come up later on the schedule, it’s good to have reliable players to contribute when they can. The Apr. 27 contest for the New Kent Lady Trojans as they hosted the visiting Bruton Lady Panthers allowed that talent to flourish. Behind 15 runs in the bottom of the opening frame, New Kent thumped Bruton 21-1 to keep their undefeated record intact. New Kent came out swinging, capitalizing on Bruton errors. Sometimes it just takes one little spark to get things going. In an Apr. 27 matchup against the Bruton Panthers, New Kent’s Trojans found its way back in the win column with a massive outpouring of run support. New Kent pushed across 10 of the game’s final 12 runs as they secured a 10-4 victory over Bruton. The Panthers opened the game, connecting off the pitching of the Trojans for the game’s first two runs. But from there, it was New Kent’s offense that took firm control of the game. Legendary: New Kent’s Otey, Pollard inducted into VHSL Hall of Fame

What does it mean to be legendary? By definition, a person is a legend when your peers admire you for your work to improve yourself and the ones around year. On Sunday afternoon, two local New Kent legends were elevated into Virginia High School League’s Hall of Fame. Kiamesha Otey, a 1999 graduate of New Kent, and Mia Pollard, a 1986 graduate of New Kent, were acknowledged for their accolades. Otey was the first of the locals to speak. New Kent High School’s boys’ soccer team looked at the 2022 Spring season as an opportunity to rebound from a horrendous performance last year. Now, they have strung together two victories in a row to return to having a winning record. Behind a four-goal performance by Zahier Zuazo, New Kent dominated King William 5-0 in Friday night’s non-district match on the pitch. New Kent’s Trojans’ baseball team continues its dominance, this time courtesy of a surprise from a new pitcher. Sophomore Thomas Wilson commanded the mound as the Trojans defeated Jamestown 4-0 in the Apr. 21 contest. Following a philosophy all year of pitching very well, play defense, and then everything will fall into place, the affair against the visiting Eagles was a case of following the plan. But New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ softball team learned in the Apr. 21 matchup that being undefeated comes with a target on their back. Despite facing a winless Jamestown Lady Eagles team, New Kent had to battle back from an early deficit to earn a 10-2 win over the visitors.
