In 2018, New Kent’s Lady Trojans bounced the Lakeland Lady Cavaliers from the Region 3A playoffs. During the Mar. 1 rematch, it was a revitalized Lakeland program that prevented New Kent from claiming another regional title. The third-seeded Lakeland Lady Cavaliers used a strong second half to pull away from the fourth-seeded New Kent Lady Trojans 51-41 in the Group 3A Region A championship game. New Kent boys’ finish in top ten at Group 3A indoor state track meet

New Kent’s boys’ indoor track and field team scored 19 points to finish in the top ten of the Group 3A State championships held Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at Liberty University in Lynchburg. Ellis Branch leaped 42’11” in the boys’ triple jump, placing third in the event. He also dashed his way to a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter dash, running a time of 36.31. Time runs out on New Kent’s comeback; Park View-South Hill eliminates Trojans

After upsetting rival Tabb during a first-round regional playoff game, New Kent’s Trojans trekked southward to Park View of South Hill to face the Dragons in a quarterfinal clash. And despite a valiant effort that saw the visitors erase a 23-point deficit, it was the hosts ability to get to the free throw line that was key in their triumph. Colonial Downs along with Rosie’s Gaming Emporiums, that operates in New Kent County along with other localities in Virginia, has been sold. Churchill Downs Inc. has agreed to acquire Peninsula Pacific Entertainment LLC., the company that owns the aforementioned entities, for $2.485 billion. Churchill Downs is famous for being the host site for the Kentucky Derby. The purchase comes as a major acquisition by the company for locations in Virginia, New York, and Iowa. Williams receives CoSIDA Rising Star Award

Jolisa Williams, a 2008 graduate of Charles City County High School, has been awarded the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Rising Star Award for colleges. New Kent’s Lady Trojans accumulated 23 points in finishing 22nd at the Group 3A State Swim Championships held Feb. 18-19 at Swim RVA in Richmond.
