Charles City’s Nevaeh Coney locked up an appearance in the Group 1A/2A State Indoor Track and Field Championships with her performance at the Group 1A/2A Regional Championship meet on Feb. 16 at Boo Williams Indoor Complex in Hampton. Coney leaped a distance of 28’11” in the girls’ triple jump, claiming third in the event and clinching one of the automatic spots for the state meet. For three quarters, Charles City’s Panthers played on even terms with the visiting King & Queen Tigers during Tuesday night’s season finale. Unfortunately for the hosts, a flat opening frame proved to be the difference maker. New Kent High School’s Guirterrez claims regional diving title, Wetherington wins gold in 50-meter freestyle

New Kent High School’s Aisling Guirterrez won the diving competition in the Group 3A Region A championship held this past weekend. Guirterrez was among one of the many highlights achieved at the meet. Gavin Wetherington placed first in the 50-meter freestyle at the regional competition. He also broke the school record in the 100-meter backstroke. Guirterrez and Wetherington highlight several Trojan swimmers who will participate at the Group 3A State swim championships in Richmond. Other participants will be Sadie Call, Kendal Vorous, Ian Durkee, Jordan Owens, Cooper Harris, Blake Newton, Isaac Lamprecht, Summer Wetherington, Neeley Pesola, and Logan Stroop.

Multiple runs instrumental in King William’s win over Charles City

Charles City’s Panthers have continued to fight in every game on the hardwood this year despite their numerous disadvantages. In Friday night’s contest against the visiting King William Cavaliers, the size and athleticism of the visitors proved too much for the hosts to handle.
