On Thursday, Apr. 13, Smart Beginnings Greater Richmond will hold its seventh annual Regional Kindergarten Campaign for Charles City while New Kent registration will be held on Thursday, Apr. 20. Children who are five years old by Sept. 30 can start kindergarten this upcoming fall, but needs to register. I would like to thank Ben Ward, a Boy Scout, for his efforts in raising funds necessary to coordinate a project that helped Providence United Methodist Church erect a new, beautiful sign in front. His efforts have provided us this sign that will display messages, information, and church programs and events. Ben took on this task as part of his Eagle Scout project and raised all the money required to purchase the sign. Seeking to add a state title to their conference and region crowns, New Kent’s Scholastic Bowl team took on three other region winners during last Saturday’s 3A state competition held at William & Mary. Unfortunately, their competitors prevailed. New Kent (0-3) lost to Culpeper (1-2), Blacksburg (2-1), and eventual state champion Cave Spring (3-0) to finish fourth in the state. Team members are Nick Parker, Harrison Hunt, Josh Dore, Gunnar Carlson, Vivian Sanchez, Billy John, Reshyra Jadooram, Lauren Barney, Bryanna Underwood, and Elijah Greer. The team is coached by Matt Duckworth.
Donations of money, time, and equipment have become more of a frequency for Bridging Communities Career and Technical Center since its opening in 2012. One such donation from Lennox Industries looks to push the school’s HVAC program to the forefront of advancement.
