Man indicted on attempted murder as part of armed robbery of Dollar General in Charles City

A man who allegedly committed an armed robbery of a Dollar General Store in Charles City County has been indicted on multiple charges, including attempted murder. Yahsim Tremaine Williams, 23, currently of Newport News City Jail, was indicted on six counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony (second offense), three counts of abduction, and one count each of use of a firearm in commission of a felony (first offense), attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, robbery that resulted in bodily harm, shooting inside an occupied building, and malicious assault during July 6 proceedings in Charles City…

Charles City man guilty of misdemeanor animal cruelty after shooting dog with BB gun

A Charles City man who shot a dog with a BB gun entered a guilty plea to an amended charge of misdemeanor animal cruelty. Jeffrey Paul Keirn, 54, of the 9400 block of Little Elam Road, accepted a plea deal to the reduced charge (originally felony animal cruelty) during July 6 proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. In a summary of evidence, on Oct. 19, 2022, a dog belonging to James Cotman had entered Keirn’s property. Providence Forge man dies in Charles City automobile accident

A Providence Forge man has died as the result of an automobile accident on July 3 in Charles City County. Darrin R. Jones, 55, died at the scene according to a report released by the Virginia State Police. According to that report, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 1993 Nissan 300ZX was traveling westbound on Route 602 (Lott Cary Road) less than half-a-mile from Route 155 (Courthouse Road) when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. A Hampton man who went on the run after selling drugs in New Kent has accepted the terms of a plea agreement following Friday morning proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. A Providence Forge man will spend two years in jail stemming from an assault and battery attack on a family member following formal sentencing Monday in New Kent Circuit Court. Harlan Egan Adkins, 52, of the 4700 block of Adkins Road, was sentenced to five years in jail with three years suspended on an assault and battery of a family member (third or subsequent offense) during proceedings stemming from an Oct. 6, 2022 incident. Incumbent Laura Ecimovic defeated Terry Cornelius during Tuesday’s primary election to secure her position as the Republican party representative as New Kent Commissioner of Revenue for the November general election. Ecimovic garnered a total of 1,427 votes as of the publishing of this article. In comparison, Cornelius earned 669 votes. Ecimovic won more votes in all 12 voting precincts in New Kent. The closest precinct battles took place in the Cumberland area, where Ecimovic won by a slight margin of 83-79, and in Mountcastle where she triumphed 43-32. New Kent woman pleads guilty to taking at least $13,000 in lottery tickets from local store

A New Kent woman who stole lottery tickets while employed at a local store entered a guilty plea to the crime as part of Monday proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. Cassandra Aliese Grammer, 27, of the 9200 block of Deerlake Drive, pled guilty to one count of lottery ticket larceny as part of a plea agreement. One count of embezzlement was nolle prosequi.
