Teenager receives two years after pleading guilty to attempted robbery in New Kent

A Quinton teenager who was involved in a robbery gone bad pled guilty to several felony charges during Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. Ryan Anthony Schutz, 19, of the 5300 block of Hemlock Road, entered guilty pleas to one count each of malicious shooting at a vehicle, firearm larceny, an amended charge of attempted robbery (originally robbery of a residence), grand larceny, and credit card larceny. Tiller seeking third term as supervisor in New Kent

C. Thomas Tiller has announced that he will be seeking a third term to New Kent’s Board of Supervisors as the representative of District 2 this fall. “There are things that the board is working on that I want to see through,” Tiller said in a phone interview. “We have worked hard to bring more emergency services to the county, and I want to see the construction of the new elementary school. “I want to continue to do this job and represent my district and New Kent County,” he concluded.

Richmond man arrested for alleged 2017 home invasion in New Kent

A New Kent home invasion case that had been a mystery to law enforcement officers has now seen a breakthrough with a possible suspect taken into custody. Rashard Davon Terry, 26, of the 2200 block of Farrand Street, Richmond, was arrested on Feb. 4 on charges of burglary, malicious wounding, robbery, abduction, grand theft auto, firearm larceny, conspiracy to commit burglary, and possession of a firearm by a violent felon. Track resurfacing topic of discussion at Charles City school board public hearing

Charles City’s School Board opened its doors for feedback stemming from the FY2019-20 proposed budget. The only speaker at Tuesday night’s public hearing made a plea for the school board to work with county supervisors to address athletic facility leaves. A Sandston man is now in custody after an hour-long standoff with New Kent Sheriff’s Office ended Friday night. Richard Cameron Custalow, of the 4900 block of Gray Bark Ct., was arrested on charges of one felony charge of assault on a law enforcement officers, and misdemeanor charges of brandishing a firearm, possession of a concealed weapon, obstruction of justice, failure to obey commands of a law enforcement officer, driving revoked, and failing to yield the right of way. Unapproved change order for proposed fire station upsets New Kent supervisors

New Kent supervisors are frustrated on a change order for the proposed Station 5 fire station in Talleysville. A change order for more than $28,000 over soil work that did not receive approval from county leaders became a sticking point during Wednesday morning’s work session. Presentation made for relocation of New Kent Post Office

With New Kent County’s population booming at an astounding rate, it only becomes more obvious that additional services will be needed for county residents. One of those services includes providing mail to citizens. A proposal by United States Postal Service (USPS) real estate representative Richard Hancock looked to addressed that issue. Hancock spoke with New Kent supervisors Wednesday morning about the possibility of relocating the New Kent Post Office to another location. A charge lodged against a Providence Forge man who was protecting himself during an altercation has been dismissed after a motion to strike was granted. Stacy Rodell Moody Jr., 26, of the 8100 block of Ruthville Road, saw a single count of felonious assault tossed by Judge B. Tractor-trailer crash shuts down Pocahontas Trail eastbound

A tractor-trailer crash on Pocahontas Trail (Route 60) eastbound near Bottoms Bridge in New Kent has closed the road. According to the Virginia State Police, a 1999 Western Star tractor hauling 24,000 pounds of trash was traveling eastbound when it ran off the road’s right side, losing control and overturning back onto the roadway. All eastbound lanes were blocked as the result of the accident. The driver, Ali Nelson, 39, of Dumfries, VA, was checked for minor injuries at the scene. New Kent population continues to soar according to recent study

New Kent County continues to be one of the fastest growing localities in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In a study conducted by Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia that was published on Jan. 28, New Kent is estimated to have a population of 22,462 people as of July 1, 2018. That number is 4,033 more than the number of people residing in the county in 2010. The growth is roughly an increase of 21.9 percent, making it the second fastest growling locality behind Loudoun County in Northern Virginia. According to the study, Charles City County…
