Co-defendant in Charles City robbery receives five-year prison term
A New Kent man who assisted with a robbery in Charles City County will spend the next five years in prison. Ahmad Amir Hutchins, 22, of the 9800 block of Tunstall Road, received formal sentencing on a single count of robbery during Friday morning proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. Hutchins was a co-defendant in a case involving Michael DeVaughan Gordon, 31, of the 500 block of Deter Road, Richmond and Alexis Wells-Elliott, 23, of New Kent. Wyatt announces candidacy for 97th District seat
Scott Wyatt, a Hanover County supervisor, has announced his candidacy for the Virginia House of Delegates 97th District Seat. Chronicle now accepting political announcements for 2019
The New Kent-Charles City Chronicle is announcing its policy for candidates who are seeking election in 2019. Candidates running for local offices may submit an announcement to the Chronicle vying for the position they are choosing to run for. Announcements should contain the position the person is planning to run for, a brief background history, the reason they are choosing to run, and a picture (if available). Train strikes vehicle in New Kent
Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash that involved a train that occurred Friday morning in New Kent. In a press release submitted by Virginia State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that around 11 a.m. at the 13700 block of Rockahock Road, a Ford work truck hauling a trailer was attempting to cross a railroad crossing as it traveled southbound when it was hit by an Amtrak passenger train. In New Kent, District 2 representative Tommy Tiller was tabbed as chairman for the board of supervisors for the year. District 3 representative Patricia Paige received the nod as vice-chairwoman. Superintendent proposes $10.4 million budget for Charles City schools’ operations in FY2019-2020
Normally, Charles City superintendent of schools David Gaston would refer to his budget presentations as ones of need. At Tuesday night’s school board meeting, he referred it to more as a budget of maintenance. Gaston presented a budget proposal of $10,473,698 for FY2019-2020 operations to school leaders. That amount is about $398,000 more than the current school year’s operating costs. Man who shot himself in leg pleads guilty for illegally possessing gun in New Kent
There are laws in the Commonwealth of Virginia that prevent a felon from possession a firearm or gun unless their rights have been restored by the governor. Former McDonald’s employees, involved in unrelated incidents, indicted by New Kent grand jury
Two former Bottoms Bridge McDonald’s employees who allegedly took money in unrelated incidents were indicted Monday morning by a New Kent grand jury. Veondra Elana Brown, 19, of the 12000 block of Oakwood Road, Providence Forge, and Donnell Maurice Comfort Jr., 42, of the 700 block of Windomere Avenue, Richmond, received indictments stemming from incidents that saw money disappear from the establishment. Brown was indicted on one charge of grand larceny stemming from an Aug. 2, 2018 incident. A Charles City man will spend the next 17 months in jail after accepting a plea agreement to a single count of grand larceny in New Kent Circuit Court. Todd Randolph Guthrie, 29, of the 3400 block of Roxbury Road, entered an Alford Plea of guilt to a theft from Ron’s Auto in New Kent.
