A New Kent man who assisted with a robbery in Charles City County will spend the next five years in prison. Ahmad Amir Hutchins, 22, of the 9800 block of Tunstall Road, received formal sentencing on a single count of robbery during Friday morning proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash that involved a train that occurred Friday morning in New Kent. In a press release submitted by Virginia State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that around 11 a.m. at the 13700 block of Rockahock Road, a Ford work truck hauling a trailer was attempting to cross a railroad crossing as it traveled southbound when it was hit by an Amtrak passenger train. Normally, Charles City superintendent of schools David Gaston would refer to his budget presentations as ones of need. At Tuesday night’s school board meeting, he referred it to more as a budget of maintenance. Gaston presented a budget proposal of $10,473,698 for FY2019-2020 operations to school leaders. That amount is about $398,000 more than the current school year’s operating costs. Two former Bottoms Bridge McDonald’s employees who allegedly took money in unrelated incidents were indicted Monday morning by a New Kent grand jury. Veondra Elana Brown, 19, of the 12000 block of Oakwood Road, Providence Forge, and Donnell Maurice Comfort Jr., 42, of the 700 block of Windomere Avenue, Richmond, received indictments stemming from incidents that saw money disappear from the establishment.
