York’s aggressive attacks take down New Kent in 3-2 boys’ soccer match

It’s clear that New Kent’s boys’ soccer team has the talent to be very good, but inconsistent play on the field has told a different story. On Monday night, a few breaks by the visiting York Falcons took advantage of communication miscues by the hosting Trojans. An emotional Bay Rivers battle resulted in the York Falcons emerging with a 3-2 victory over New Kent, dropping the hosts to 6-5-1 on the season. Reeders breaks school record in triple jump, finishes third at Dogwood Track Classic

New Kent’s C.J. Reeders leaped to a school record of 47’4½” in the boys’ triple jump, finishing third at the 55th annual Dogwood Track Classic in Charlottesville on Saturday. Reeders’ mark eclipses his previous school record by two feet. Both Charles City and New Kent athletes participated in the prestigious event that required a specific time or mark for entry. New Kent’s girls’ 4×100 meter relay team of Melissa Spangler, Julia Hathaway, Jakeira Thomas, and Queen Frazier earned a qualifying berth to the Group 3A state meet with a time of 51.08. Smithfield holds New Kent scoreless in girls’ soccer match

New Kent’s Lady Trojans entered the May 2 contest against the visiting Smithfield Lady Packers to knock off a team that has essentially dominated Bay Rivers opponents throughout the year. Unfortunately for the homestanding Lady Trojans, a great effort couldn’t register into goals on the scoreboard. Smithfield lived up to their one loss record, pitching a 6-0 shutout against New Kent in the clash of district rivals. The visitors took the lead for good moments into the contest as Madie Vincent’s goal started a scoring spree for Smithfield. Locals participate in martial arts premiere camp

Sierra Altizer and Zachary Wiseman, students at New Kent’s Freedom Martial Arts, participated in the USAT Tae Kwon Do camp in Florida. The camp hosts approximately 100 of young athletes in different divisions of the sport in preparation for training for exclusive events such as the United States Olympic Trials.

Box scores can be deceptive at times when reading the results of a sporting event. Such was the case in Monday afternoon’s baseball contest between New Kent and Jamestown. Despite playing on even terms with the visiting Eagles, the homestanding Trojans had a comeback come to a halt as Jamestown emerged with a 5-3 victory in Monday’s contest. The Eagles’ Jared Mason received a free pass to home plate after a bases loaded walk in the third inning brought him home to put the guests ahead. When rival Jamestown comes to New Kent, it’s always expected to be a tough contest no matter what the record says. On Monday afternoon, a late kick-start helped the hosting Lady Trojans earn the win. The last four games have been a nightmare for New Kent’s Trojans baseball team. Having dropped all of those contests, the Trojans have gone from first to worst in the tight Bay Rivers District.
