New Kent’s Lady Trojans team has been dominant all year, accumulating 61 runs and only giving up 10, with eight of them surrendered in their opening contest. But Tuesday afternoon’s game, the hosts relied on a late inning error by Smithfield’s Lady Packers to escape with a 4-3 win. New Kent emerged from Spring Break looking to change their opinions. A contest against Smithfield’s Packers who entered the contest with the same record as the Trojans started their journey back to the win column. The Trojans surrendered only two runs as they throttled the visiting Packers 9-2 in Tuesday afternoon action. A hat trick by Lady Trojan Taylor Clements provided more than enough offense as New Kent turned back the visiting West Point Lady Pointers 5-0 in the Mar. 29 contest. Clements helped the hosts to a hot start, scoring two early goals in the contest. Rogers earns National academic honors

Rachel Rogers, a Providence Forge resident and senior athlete at Sweet Briar College, was named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic squad. Rogers is a member of Sweet Briar’s field hockey team. She maintained a minimum grade-point average of 3.3 and competed in athletics at the Division III level to earn the academic recognition.

By the time Charles City’s Panthers hitting became a threat to the visiting Huguenot Falcons, the sun had set on them; both figuratively and literally. In a game that consisted of two halves, New Kent’s boys’ soccer team fell behind 3-1 in the first half to the visiting Colonial Heights’ Colonials. But three second half goals by the hosts Trojans were enough to keep the team undefeated as they pulled off a 4-3 victory in Monday night’s contest.
