Carpenter named to 3A First Team in baseball

Steven Carpenter, a recent graduate of New Kent High School, was named to the Group 3A all-state baseball team. Carpenter received recognition and was elected to the first team as a shortstop. He will be continuing his baseball career at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Kowal claims outdoor pole vault title at 3A state championships

New Kent’s Griffin Kowal duplicated his indoor pole vault success with a clearance of 15’0” to win the Group 3A Outdoor Track & Field championships on June 3-4 at Harrisonsburg High School. Kowal’s mark set a new state record for Group 3A in its third year of existence. Teammates Darius Jones (11’0”) and Will Tolley (10’6”) finished eighth and 14th, respectively, in the event. Allen finishes fifth in Group 1A boys’ 400-meter dash

Charles City’s Tyler Allen accumulated all four points for the Panthers as its lone participant in the Group 1A State Track & Field Championships this past weekend at Radford University. Allen finished fifth in the 400-meter dash, running a time of 52.35 to earn the points. He also finished in the top ten in the long jump with a leap of 19’10½”. Allen’s points helped the Panthers to a tie for 25th place at the meet. Auburn’s boys and girls won both state titles for Group 1A this year.

Allen to represent Charles City at Group 1A state track meet

Senior Tyler Allen will represent Charles City High School in two events at the Group 1A State Championships on June 3-4 at Radford University. Allen placed third in the boys’ 400-meter dash at the Group 1A East Regional Championships at Sussex High School on May 26, running a time of 53.19. Griffin Kowal cleared 15 feet, seven inches to win pole vault and help New Kent’s Trojans place sixth overall at the 3A East Region track meet held Thursday at Lakeland High School in Suffolk. The Trojans scored 50.5 points while the Lady Trojans totaled 10.16 to place 16th. Phoebus won the boys’ meet with 99 while Tabb took the girls’ with 136.33. Late Park View surge ends conference bid, season for New Kent

Back in March, New Kent’s host Trojans thumped Park View-South Hill’s Dragons to the tune of 11-1 in a contest called after five innings due to high school baseball’s slaughter rule. Tuesday afternoon, the teams met again on the same field, this time in the opening round of the Conference 25 baseball tournament. New Kent’s defense only allowed eight Colonial Heights shots while the Lady Trojan offense made good on three of 11 attempts.
