First soccer victory continues to elude New Kent’s Trojans

New Kent’s Trojans remain in their quest for their first soccer win of the season following a disappointing 4-1 Thursday night loss to Warhill’s invading Lions. New Kent falls two points short of Lafayette in Bay Rivers track meet

Lafayette scored 97 points to edge host New Kent’s 95 in the third of a series of track meets featuring all 10 Bay Rivers District schools. The host Trojans were led by first place finishes from R.J. Morris in triple jump (41-5), Joe Dixon in shot (43-9.5), and Yuri Frazier at 800 meters (2:11.46) during Wednesday’s meet. The Lady Trojans, meanwhile, totaled 42 points to place sixth overall. Warhill tops New Kent in rain-shortened boys tennis

Warhill topped New Kent 5-0 in a Wednesday boys tennis match that was shortened by an approaching storm. Singles: Cummins (W) d. Ashford (NK) 6-0, 6-2; Pauls (W) d. Edmonds (NK) 6-1, 6-4; Gravel (W) d. Frizzell (NK) 6-2,-6-1; Hrncir (W) d. Squares (NK) 6-0, 6-0; Charter (W) d. Sorenson (NK) 6-2, 7-5. The number six singles match was halted due to the storm. Bad weather also forced cancellation of doubles matches.

Wolverines carve up Panthers in 8-0 soccer contest

In a battle of first year soccer programs, Charles City’s Panthers hosted visiting Carver Academy’s Wolverines. And with both teams being co-ed and scratching the surface at competitiveness at the high school level, on paper it seemed to be an even matchup. But matches aren’t played on paper. Behind six goals from freshman Santos Romero Vasquez and two additional ones from classmate Hever Lopez-Milian, the visiting Wolverines disposed of the host Panthers 8-0 en route to a slaughter rule victory on Apr. 27. Lady Trojans withstand Grafton comeback for 3-2 soccer victory

After dominating play in a scoreless first half of Tuesday’s soccer clash with Grafton’s Clippers, New Kent’s host Lady Trojans punched in a trio of unanswered second half goals. And they would need every one of them. The Lady Trojans weathered a second half, one-hour thunderstorm delay along with a late Grafton comeback to capture a 3-2 victory, raising their season record to 5-4.
