New Kent’s Trojans pounded out 14 hits off Warhill pitching on the way to a 12-5 conquest of the visiting Lions in Wednesday afternoon baseball. Unable to solve the delivery of Warhill pitcher Keely Rochard who struck out 17, New Kent’s Lady Trojans fell with a resounding thud Wednesday afternoon to the visiting Lions by an 11-2 softball final. York’s Falcons entered Tuesday night’s soccer clash at New Kent as the state’s number one-ranked 3A team, and most likely with an expectation of walking over the Trojans who have yet to experience a win this season. Second half scoring surge highlights New Kent 6-0 win over Essex

Goalkeeper Sara Buchanan had sort of an uneventful outing while guarding the net for New Kent’s Lady Trojans in Monday’s soccer match with visiting Essex. The lone visitors’ shot of the first half sailed wide, thus she was never called on to make a save. But when play resumed after intermission, Buchanan took over one of the forward slots on offense. New Kent edged for title at Charles City Invitational track meet

Despite two first place finishes by distance runner Jon Swartout and Joe Dixon’s gold medal in the boys’ shot, New Kent’s Trojans had to settle for second place overall during Charles City’s Invitational last Saturday. The Trojans accumulated 103.7 points, falling shy of eventual winner Henrico’s 105.5 in the contest. Prince George rounded out the top three with 93.7 points. Host Charles City finished tenth out of 14 teams, garnishing 16 points. Swartout accumulated times of 2:11.96 and 4:48.73 in the boys’ 800 and 1600 meter run, respectively, to take gold in the event.
