Charles City’s Panthers played their second home baseball game of the season last Friday, looking to get a victory against Walsingham Academy’s Trojans. The good news for the host Panthers is unlike their first game, they got the bats swinging and put a run on the board. The bad news is they gave up 27 runs and lost 27-1. Youthful NK golfer records hole-in-one

Robb Kinder, a 12 year old junior golfer from New Kent, recorded his second career hole in one on March 9. He achieved the feat on the 127-yard, par 3 second hole at Nansemond River Golf Club while playing in the Hampton Roads tour of the U.S. Kids Golf Tournament.

Top-ranked Eagles thwart Lady Panthers’ state run

As Charles City’s Lady Panthers stepped on the basketball court inside James Madison University’s Convocation Center, they knew the task at hand– take down the number one ranked and defending Division 1 state champion East Rockingham Lady Eagles to earn a final four berth at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center. Unfortunately for the Lady Panthers, the Eagles lived up to their billing. NK gymnasts win titles at invitationals

New Kent Gymnastics Center’s competitive teams are earning title after title as they travel across the state going against mega gyms of the big cities. Most notably, the Prep Optional Novice Team won first place team at Excalibur Cup, an international Junior Olympic meet. They won second place team at the April Showers Invitational and at last weekend’s Make-a-Wish Invitational. The Level 4 Team brought home third place team at the Make-a-Wish Invitational and at the Jerrell Steele Invitational. Charles City stuns ARGS for T-RD tourney title

Charles City Lady Panthers’ head coach Vashaun Otey took home one of his best birthday gifts ever– a championship trophy. The third-seeded Lady Panthers pulled off the biggest upset in program history with a 61-58 victory over the top-seeded Appomattox Regional Governor’s School Lady Dragons in the Tri-Rivers District Tournament championship game at Surry. Charles City’s Lady Panthers outscored the visiting Rappahannock Lady Raiders 24-11 in the final quarter on their way to a 51-35 win to advance to the Region A, Division 1 basketball quarterfinals against Surry’s Lady Cougars.
