Charles City’s Lady Panthers returned to the win column following a big first quarter opening run Friday night against the visiting Northampton Lady Yellow Jackets. New Kent High School diver Aisling Gutierrez captured the Bay Rivers District championships during Monday night’s competition. Gutierrez, who is the reigning Group 3A State champion, won the event at the Hampton Aquaplex.
New Kent’s Ryan Griffith won two events while teammate Carrington Coyle captured another as New Kent’s Lady Trojans won a three-team competition on Jan. 18. Griffith won the floor exercise with a score of 9.3, while also placing first in the uneven bars of 9.1. Coyle won the gold in the balance beam competition with a score of 9.35, with Griffith finishing in a close second with 9.25. Griffith finished as the best all-around performer with 36.65 points.
