New Kent’s girls’ and boys’ swim teams participated in a Jan. 10 swim meet against Bay Rivers District opponents. On the boys’ side, New Kent defeated Bruton 60-33 in competition. The team was edged by Tabb 47-45 in the other dual competition. On the girls’ side, the Lady Trojans were bested by Tabb 77-17 and also by Bruton 64-30.
New Kent’s Trojans are getting healthy at the right time. And after a Jan. 10 match-up against the visiting Poquoson Islanders, the Trojans are looking to make some noise in the Bay Rivers District and in a dominant way. New Kent exposed Poquoson’s weaknesses en route to a 77-30 blowout victory of the visiting Islanders. Poquoson hung tight for one quarter, trailing by eight (20-12) at the end of the frame. New Kent High School’s Wrestling Team cruised to a victory in a Jan. 3 quad home meet. New Kent opened up defeating Bay Rivers District rival Jamestown 76-6. The Trojans followed that up with a win over the Patrick Henry (Ashland) Patriots 66-7 before closing the night with a 64-6 victory over the Powhatan Indians. A rare home game during the Winter Break allowed the opportunity for New Kent’s Trojans to take on an unfamiliar foe in the visiting Charlottesville Black Knights. And while the hosts hung in for a half against the visitors, it was Charlottesville’s one-two combination of Luka Matic and Aidan Yates who outworked the Trojans.
