By Robb Johnson | June 1, 2022 3:43 am

It didn’t matter what time New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ softball team took the field Tuesday evening; they were ready for action. Despite the one-hour delay, the hosting Lady Trojans cruised to a 19-3 victory over the visiting Lakeland Cavaliers in the opening round of the Group 3A Region A quarterfinals. Lakeland’s only highlight in the early going was having a runner reach base in the top of the first. But from there, New Kent got things rolling and in a hurry. After Norah Murray and Alline Alexander reached base, McKenna Mueller’s triple drove in her teammates for a 2-0 lead….

By Robb Johnson | May 22, 2022 1:00 am

New Kent’s boys’ soccer team has talent on their roster. That has never been the question. But the question applies if the team is able to take lessons from Trojans’ Head Coach Derek Yates and apply them to the field. A regular season finale against the Gloucester Dukes provided another tough message that had to be sent to the hosts. Mental lapses in concentration along with defensive mistakes resulted in the visiting Dukes upending New Kent 4-2 on May 18, spoiling the home team’s Senior Night celebration. Charles City Lady Panthers fail to secure win in season finale against Mathews

By Robb Johnson | May 22, 2022 12:10 am

Panthers’ season ends with loss to powerhouse Mathews

By Robb Johnson | May 21, 2022 11:58 pm

After a positive start, Charles City High School’s baseball team fell into a slump once district play began. That slump concluded on May 18 in a home contest against the Mathews Blue Devils. Not even a nice size crowd could elevate the Panthers’ defensive output. Mathews pushed across player after player to build up the double-digit lead before the hosts could have their first at-bat. But a bright spot did occur when the Panthers…
