New Kent freshman Isaac Lamprecht clocked a time of 17:44.60 to finish in 36th place at the Group 3A State cross-country championship on Apr. 21 at Green Hill Park in Salem. Lamprecht was among 67 runners who took the course in the boys’ portion of the competition. He qualified as an individual at the Group 3A Region A championship. A two-hour trip to northern Virginia and an undefeated George Mason Lady Mustangs team were the obstacles New Kent Lady Trojans’ volleyball team needed to overcome to claim a spot in the Group 3A state championship game. After overcoming nerves in the early goings, the result was New Kent claiming its first appearance in the volleyball state championship game since 2001. The old adage in sports is that it’s hard to defeat a team three times in one season. But that was the task New Kent’s Lady Trojans volleyball team had to accomplish to earn a trip to the state quarterfinals in their third encounter with Lafayette’s Lady Rams. New Kent’s Lady Trojans cross-country team earned a third-place finish at the Group 3A Region A championship meet on Apr. 13 at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.
