Senior Night for New Kent Lady Trojans’ field hockey team focused on the objective to show improvement on the field. In a rematch against the visiting Warhill Lady Lions, it would take more than the 60 minutes of regulation to determine a victor. New Kent’s girls’ and boys’ cross-country teams orchestrated third place finishes at Tuesday afternoon’s home meet against Tabb and Warhill High School. On the girls’ side, Lady Trojan teammates Rosie Gilbride and Charlotte Verdu finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place with times of 23:13 and 23:55, respectively. A New Kent teenager placed in several categories during the AAU National Indoor Track and Field meet held Mar. 12-14 in Virginia Beach. Lauren Curry earned second place finishes in the girls’ 13-year-old high jump (4’8”), and triple jump (27’0”). She also placed third in the girls’ shot put competition (29’0”).

Horse racing returns to Colonial Downs on July 19

Live horse racing at Colonial Downs plans to kickoff on July 19 in New Kent. Thoroughbred horses and trainers from around the country will run every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for seven weeks beginning July 19 and concluded at Sept. 1.
