Editorial: Even in a changing world, take time for yourself when making an impact

As I write this, there is only one thing that is on my mind right now: Vacation. Charles City Educational Foundation awards grants

Charles City’s Educational Foundation awarded five teacher innovation grants to further educational opportunities for Charles City Public Schools. –Lisa Brown received the Primary Source of the Month grant to assist with research of social studies outside of the classroom environment. –Vicki Williams received the Improving School Spirit Using Your Imagination grant that will provide opportunities for students to use creative approaches in the marketing process. –Christine McBee received the Kids’ Project Archaeology of Charles City (KPACC) grant to establish an afterschool club that uses hands-on study techniques that focuses on archaeology through math, science, history, writing, and research. –Jennifer Richardson…

Owens graduates from Longwood University

Savannah Owens, a 2015 graduate of New Kent High school, recently completed her studies at Longwood University. Owens received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Among other accolades earned include graduating Cum Laude and earning recognition to the President’s List by accumulating a grade-point average of 4.0 for the Spring 2019 semester.

Gregory earns Dean’s List recognition from Virginia Tech

Lauren Gregory, a 2015 graduate of New Kent High School, was named to Virginia Tech’s Dean’s List for the Spring 2019 semester. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must be enrolled as a full-time student and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.

Editorial: Charles City’s proposed power plant reminds us to do our research

It didn’t take very long for me to get tagged in a social media post late last week. A letter was sent out by an environmentalist to residents near the Roxbury area of Charles City. At hand was an issue about the proposed Chickahominy Power station that will be constructed in the area. In a brief summary, the letter said that the plant along with another one planned to be built in the area will be the source of major emissions into the atmosphere.
