Project Lifesaver program initiated in Charles City

Charles City County Sheriff’s Office has announced its partnership with the Project Lifesaver Program that is designed to track and rescue those with cognitive diseases. The service addresses critical needs for protecting citizens in Charles City who are at risk of wandering, including those with Alzheimer’s, Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Down Syndrome and Dementia for all ages. Clients enrolled in the service will wear a wrist-watch sized radio transmitter on their wrist or ankle. Spring wildfire season begins Feb. 15

Spring wildfire season is now in effect for New Kent and Charles City. Between Feb. 15 and Apr. 30, burn restrictions are in effect for both counties. Here are some reminders during that time frame: –Open burning which is 300 feet of woods or grass which could carry the fire to the woods is banned before 4 p.m. (Open burning is burning which releases smoke and other products of combustion directly to the atmosphere without passing through a chimney or screen.) RCC scholarships available for 2018-19

Scholarships are now available to students who plan to enroll at Rappahannock Community College in the next academic year (2018-19). Scholarships are available to full-time and part-time students. Applicants complete one form which will make them eligible for all scholarships. Deadline to apply for scholarships is Friday, Feb. 16. Gregory named to Virginia Tech’s Dean’s List

Lauren Gregory, a 2015 graduate of New Kent High School, was named to the Dean’s List at Virginia Tech University for the Fall 2017 semester. In order to earn the recognition, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or better while taking a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Bonner lands on UVA’s Dean’s List

Sherese Bonner, a 2017 graduate of New Kent High School, was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Virginia for the Fall 2017 semester. In order to receive the honor, a student must maintain a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher while taking at least 15 credit hours.
