Chickahominy Tribe to host 66th annual festival

The Chickahominy Indian Tribe will join Native American friends and visitors from all over the country when they gather for the 66th annual Chickahominy Fall Festival and Pow-wow on Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept. 24 at the Chickahominy Tribal Grounds, located at 8200 Lott Cary Road, Providence Forge, VA, in Charles City. Grounds will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday with grand entry commencing at 12 p.m., and will re-open on Sunday 11 a.m. with grand entry beginning at 1 p.m. The festival/Pow-Wow will feature Native American dancers, drummers, singers, and cultural demonstrations. New Kent County Fair 2017

Tracy Bryan accumulated 290 points to claim the top spot in the adult division for this year’s sweepstakes at New Kent’s County Fair. Last year’s winner Martha Martin rung in 128 points, good enough to take second place in the competition. Marilyn DeHart scored 117 points to round out the top three. In the youth competition, Justine Eckert scored 102 points to be named as the winner of the division. Loveland awarded Ervin scholarship from Washington University

A 2017 graduate of New Kent High School is the recipient of the Ervin Scholar scholarship from Washington University located in St. Louis, Missouri. Callista Loveland of Providence Forge is one of 35 recipients of the award that is presented to first-year students at the university. The scholarship is presented to students who demonstrate exceptional intellectual and leadership achievements, as well as showing a commitment to community service to bring diverse people together. The scholarship is upwards to $50,650 and is renewable for up to four years during undergraduate studies.
