Alease Allen Johnson Braxton passed into the eternal presence of our Lord on Monday, May 2, 2022, surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Alease was born on Nov. 5, 1919, to the late Robert and Elizabeth Allen in Charles City County, VA, and was a life-long resident of the county. She was educated in the county schools and a graduate of Ruthville High School. She joined Union Baptist Church at 11 years of age and was a faithful member until her health began to decline. Geraldine Rowe Hale, 86, gained her heavenly rest on Apr. 29, 2022, following a long illness. Gerri was the first-born child of Aldon and Gladys Rowe of Rowe, Virginia. She spent all of her adult life in the Lanexa, Virginia area. Ms. Gerri, as she was affectionately known by so many, was a Christian woman, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. He was especially close with his sisters Emma and Ellie. He was fiercely protective of them and always had their best interests at heart. Alvin “Dennis” Hogge, 75, passed away on Feb. 1, 2022, in the loving care of his daughter at his home in Williamsburg, Virginia. Dennis was born in New Kent County and was the second of nine children. He was a United States Marine with an honorable discharge, a Vietnam veteran, a member of the Chickahominy Indians Tribe Eastern Division in New Kent County, and a member of Tsena Commocko Baptist Church. Sherry Marcine Brown was born on Aug. 26, 1939, in Pennsylvania. She lived in the small town of Greencastle until her early teens, when her family sold the Greencastle Sanitary Dairy and moved to Clearwater Island, Florida. After high school at the beach, Sherry attended Florida State University, earning a master’s degree in speech therapy. While enrolled she practiced synchronized swimming and later appeared (underwater) in an Ester Williams movie.
