Kerman E. Ward, 77, of Lanexa, Virginia, went to his heavenly home on Dec. 5, 2020. He was born on Aug. 4, 1943 in Bertie County, North Carolina, to the late Inez and Nathan Ward. Kerman served in the United States Army and then went to work for New Kent Sheriff’s Department for over 20 years, where he retired as a sergeant. Kerman had a passion for music, which led to the creation of the “Work-N-Progress” band. When he wasn’t playing music, he enjoyed camping and riding Harleys alongside his wife. Anne Tyler Netick died on Dec. 7, 2020 at Edgeworth Park in Williamsburg. She was born in Richmond on Sept. 28, 1934. The daughter of David Gardiner Tyler Jr. and Anne Morton Shelton, she was raised at Sherwood Forest Plantation. She was educated in the Charles City Public School system and at St. Catherine’s School in Richmond. She graduated from Randolph-Macon Women’s College where, like her mother, was a member of Phi Mu. Olivia Nokomis Adkins Bradby went to be with the Lord on Dec. 6, 2020. Olivia came to know the Lord at a young age. She was a member of Samaria Baptist Church where she served as an assistant Sunday school teacher and was active with the Women’s Missions. Olive was also a member of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe. Dr. Avis Donna Alexander departed this life on Nov. 30, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Donna led a life filled with accomplishment, beginning with her higher education at John Tyler Community College before continuing to complete her bachelor’s degree in English. She followed that with a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Psychology, earning them at Virginia Commonwealth University. She subsequently worked in different capacities as a medical grant coordinator at MCV before starting her career in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) as a professor of psychology at Northern Virginia Community College and John Tyler Community…

Mary Spence King, 94, of Quinton, Virginia, passed away after a brief illness on Nov. 29, 2020. She was a pastor’s wife for 53 years, serving for the Assembly of God Church Organization in multiple churches on the East Coast and in Shacklefords, Virginia in a multitude of roles. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Earnest William King; daughter, Betty Gay Smith; and nine brothers and sisters. Charles Mitchell Hammond Jr., known as Mitch, passed away suddenly and peacefully at his home in New Kent, Virginia, on Nov. 10, 2020. He was born on Mar. 14, 1937, the first of five children to the Rev. Charles Mitchell Hammond Sr. and Altha Hammond. Mitch graduated from Lock Haven Area High School and enlisted into the United States Navy. He attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, graduating in 1960. Betty Abernathy Brime, born on Feb. 2, 1954, passed unexpectedly on Oct. 15, 2020. In lieu of flowers, a remember Betty Brime account has been set up at BB&T with the last four account numbers being 8134. A meal train and fund me page have also been set up in her memory. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The family thanks everyone for their patience and outpouring of support during this extremely difficult time.

Linwood Wilford Throckmorton Sr., 84, of Quinton, Virginia, left his earthly home for his eternal home on Oct. 15, 2020. Wilford was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He graduated from New Kent High School as a member of the Class of 1954. He was the co-owner of Betty’s Catering Service and a member of Black Creek Baptist Church.
