New Kent Lady Trojans place second at Group 3A Region A track championships

New Kent’s Lady Trojans track and field team finished as runners-up at the Group 3A Region A Track and Field Championship held on June 10 held at Lakeland High School. Lady Trojan Julia Hathaway emerged with the top spot in the girls’ triple jump, emerging victorious with a distance of 33’6½”. Teammate Sierrah Matthews was able edge out Booker T. Washington’s Swayne Clennon to win the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.84. The Lady Trojans scored 128 points at the meet. They finished behind Bay Rivers District rival and meet winner Tabb (164) and ahead of Bay Rivers District…

Lone Lady Panther Williams powers Charles City to fourth-place finish at 1A regional championships

Sometimes the will and desire to be successful comes down to an individual. For Charles City’s Alexis Williams, her wants provided one of the more historical performances at the Group 1A Region A Championship track and field meet in several years Tuesday afternoon. Williams, the only Lady Panther track and field athlete, accumulated 42 points, finishing fourth at the meet out of 13 teams. Williams lone win came in the girls’ triple jump, leaping a distance of 36’4” to capture that event with relative ease. Struggles continue for New Kent boys’ soccer team

The struggles for New Kent High School’s boys’ soccer team continued Tuesday night in a Bay Rivers District matchup against the Tabb Tigers. The visitors ruined the final home game of the season for the Trojans, as Tabb posted an 8-0 shutout in the process. Tabb got it’s first goal early on in the contest with a Ben Heckler boot to the back of the net. After New Kent’s Trevor Bendor committed a foul in the penalty box, Tiger forward Michael Hackworth scored on the subsequent penalty kick to up the score 2-0 less than five minutes in the game….

New Kent’s Lady Trojans soccer team could not stop an offensive attack by the visiting Jamestown Lady Eagles from finding the back of the net during the June 2 Bay Rivers District contest. Despite a valiant effort, the hosting Lady Trojans fell 5-0 to an undefeated Lady Eagles team, dropping the hosts record to 2-6. Jamestown scored two early goals before the host’s defense was able to slow them down. New Kent High School’s baseball team has continued to impress throughout the season. But it would take a big fourth inning in order to capture a victory at the June 2 Senior Night game against Bruton. The hosting Trojans exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning as they propelled to a 9-0 shutout of the visiting Panthers for the win. New Kent’s Lady Trojans coasted to a 16-0 victory over the visiting Bruton Lady Panthers in their June 2 Senior Night home finale. After surrendering an early hit in the first inning, New Kent pitcher Gracie Ellis would strike out the next 15 batters she face. Meanwhile, the Lady Trojan offense flourished early on, scoring six runs in the opening frame and added 10 in the third. The hosts closed out the game in the top of the fifth via the mercy rule. New Kent’s Trojans continue to struggle on the pitch, remaining winless so far in the abbreviated 2021 season. Unfortunately for the hosts, things didn’t fair any better Tuesday night. The visiting Lafayette Rams cruised to an 8-0 victory in the Bay Rivers District contest, dropping the Trojans record to 0-7. Lafayette’s aggressiveness from the onset overwhelmed the hosts, as Ram forward Blake Lowery scored three minutes into the contest.
