Curry siblings garner four medals at indoor track and field invitational

New Kent siblings Lauren and Jayden Curry earned a total of four medals at the Virginia Beach AAU Indoor Track and Field Invitational held Dec. 4-5 at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex. Lauren earned a first place finish in the shot put competition for the 11-12 age group for girls, and posted a second place finish in the high jump event. Jayden earned a second place finish in the boys high jump for the 13-14 year old age division and placed third in the two-mile run.

Charles City sports to have no fans to begin Winter season

Curry siblings earn trip to AAU national cross-country competition

A pair of New Kent siblings will participate in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Cross-Country Championship Meet in Tallahassee, Florida. Jayden and Lauren Curry both qualified for the meet after placing at the state meet held in Portsmouth. Jayden won the boys’ 14U age division by accumulating a time of 17:24. Sister Lauren earned a third-place finish in the girls’ 12U age group with a time of 13:46. This is the third consecutive year that both siblings will participate in the national meet.

As school divisions elect and discuss a way to return to physical buildings, the concept of extracurricular activities also come to the forefront for each high school. Colonial Downs named ‘Attraction of the Year’

Colonial Downs in New Kent has been named as Richmond Region Tourism’s “Attraction of the Year.” The announcement came as part of a virtual event held on Sept. 25 as part of its annual meeting. The meeting also served as a launching pad for Richmond Region Tourism’s 10-year strategic plan for visitors and residents. Colonial Downs is the home to multiple horse-racing events and Rosie’s Gaming Emporium.
