New Kent High School’s boys’ track and field team scored eight points to finish 28th in the Group 3A Outdoor State Track & Field Championships held June 3-4 at Liberty University in Lynchburg. Isaac Lamprecht was the top finisher for New Kent, placing fourth in the boys’ 3200-meter run with a time of 9:47.74. Teammate Brandon Heffinger accounted for the other points for the Trojans, finishing sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.81. After being denied two consecutive years for a state championship in softball, New Kent’s Lady Trojans focused on the task at hand and the simple goal of taking it one game at a time. That was what it took in Tuesday afternoon’s matchup against the visiting William Monroe Lady Dragons. New Kent High School’s baseball team began the tough task of capturing a state championship Tuesday afternoon as they hosted the Meridian Mustangs. But one thing the Trojans learned, is that nothing is ever given, and the miscues against the Mustangs was a wrong time to learn that lesson.
