Sometimes it takes an error to provide that additional motivation for a team’s success. Such was the case during Friday afternoon’s game for the New Kent Trojans. Deeming what they figured was a missed called in the top of the sixth inning, New Kent pushed across seven runs in the bottom of the frame to rout the visiting York Falcons 10-4. New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ softball team may have lost a season, but they haven’t lost a step. The hosting Lady Trojans dominated the visiting York Lady Falcons 12-2 in Friday afternoon’s Bay Rivers District contest. Charles City Lady Panther Alexis Williams orchestrated four wins in Friday’s three-team track and field meet at Northampton High School. Williams posted victories in the girls’ long jump (13’9½”), triple jump (32’7½”), shot (23’2”), and discus (55’5”). She also added runner-up finishes in the high jump (4’8”) and 100-meter hurdles (21.71). Williams accumulated 26 points, good enough to place Charles City third at the meet. Two Lady Trojan volleyball players named to VHSCA all-state teams

Two New Kent Lady Trojan volleyball players have been named to the Virginia High School Coaches Association (VHSCA) all-state team. Junior setter Haley Baker was named to the all-state first team. Julia Hathaway, a middle blocker, was named to the all-state second team. VHSCA elected to sponsor an all-state team as the Virginia High School League is not recognizing all-state teams for the 2020-21 school year.

New Kent’s Lady Trojans got individual wins from Kori Massey and Julia Hathaway en route to finishing third at their May 12 Bay Rivers home contest.
