York’s Lady Falcons combined aggressive base running with the pitching of Chelsey Evans to shut out New Kent’s host Lady Trojans in Tuesday softball action. Evans fired a two-hitter while the Falcon offense produced all the runs the team needed in the first two innings on the way to a 3-0 win. She struck out nine and did not allow a walk. Coming off a 19-0 drubbing of Lafayette the day before, Warhill’s Lady Lions rode an 8-1 record into Saturday’s softball encounter at New Kent, a team that had just risen above the .500 mark earlier this week with back-to-back wins, including a 4-0 decision at Lafayette. Either the Lion bats never made the bus trip or the visitors could not solve Lady Trojan pitcher Destiny Eberhard’s delivery. Protecting a 2-1 lead and with time rapidly running out, chances for New Kent’s host Trojans ending a two-match soccer losing streak brightened with every second ticking off the clock.
